Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in our research exploring brainwaves in different types of thought!

This research
This study uses the electroencephalography (EEG) neuroimaging method, where small sensors are non-invasively placed across the scalp with the aid of hypoallergenic conductive gel to measure the electrical activity of the brain. We will record this activity while you rest and then while you complete a computer-based task involving visual and verbal thought. We are particularly interested in how this may differ between people with visual mental imagery and people with aphantasia. This will be a two hour session (including ~45 minutes of EEG set-up) on campus, which is paid at £20.

Below are two sets of brief questions which allow us to check your eligibility for the study:
1)
Questions about your visual mental imagery
This enables us to set you up for the correct condition ready for when you arrive and will also be used in determining your eligibility.
2) Questions about your eligibility for the EEG neuroimaging technique
This helps us determine whether EEG measures are suitable for you and helps us to be more confident in the EEG data we collect.

Your answers will be reviewed by a researcher. If you are eligible, you will be invited to book your participation slot for the paid study.

Your data
Any information you give is handled professionally and without judgement, and will be kept confidentially and stored securely. As with any participation, completion of this eligibility check is voluntary, and you are free to exit at any time and without prejudice if you no longer wish to continue and would like to withdraw from the EEG study.
